DMACK Brings RFID to Bike Tyres

DMACK components tires

Finnish bicycle tire manufacturer DMACK Nordic has announced a major leap forward in product traceability and environmental compliance, achieving full readiness for the European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) ahead of its enforcement deadline. Beyond simply meeting the strict EU standards, which require natural rubber to be traced back to non-deforested origin via GPS geolocation, DMACK plans to become the first bicycle tire maker to embed passive RFID tags directly into its tires. Production of these RFID-equipped Suomi Tyres will kick off at the company’s manufacturing facility in Lieksa, Finland, in 2027, assigning each tire a unique digital identity that links finished products straight to raw material source data.

This technological push aligns with DMACK’s growing focus on the rapidly expanding urban cargo bike market, where commercial fleets require predictable maintenance and minimal downtime. Building on its Routa Cargo winter and Impact rcB2 summer lineups, DMACK is developing a specialized, fixed-cost tire and tube package that pairs warranty protection with RFID tracking. This system allows fleet operators to schedule preventive tire replacements before failures disrupt deliveries, utilizing local European manufacturing to offer commercial operators fixed costs, reliable supply chains, and seamless lifecycle management.

For European bike manufacturers, distributors, and retailers, DMACK’s combination of early EUDR compliance and digital product tracking offers a distinct competitive edge. Every tire produced starting in 2027 will feature an EUDR-compliant logo vulcanized directly onto the sidewall, providing verifiable regulatory certainty and full supply-chain transparency. As CEO Dick Cormack highlighted, pairing regulatory adherence with digital tag technology creates a new benchmark in the cycling industry, proving that environmental responsibility and technological innovation can go hand in hand.
